In order to make sure your shoes don’t fly off during a spin or crush your toes as you dance, you have to get the right size. It may take some trial and error to find the best size, but there are some general guidelines to follow.
For open-toed styles, you should order your regular shoe size. For closed-toed shoes, consider ordering a size up. Are you usually a half size? Order down a half size for open-toed shoes and up a half size for closed-toed. If you have wide feet, you may need to order up one or even two sizes.
Keep in mind that patent and leather shoes stretch with wear. If you have new shoes in one of these materials and they’re too tight, they may just take some breaking in. For any material, if your shoe is just a little big, try adding an insole insert.

Leather shoes and others with a matte finish are a great choice for floor work. Be wary of choosing glitter-covered shoes, as the frequent rubbing along the floor will cause it to wear away faster.
