Dancing is hard work, and burnout is real. Don’t let yourself run on fumes. Take the time out of your day to care for yourself, drink plenty of water, and sleep. Do things that make you happy. Here are some ideas for treating yourself well.
After a long shift, take some time to relax! Soothe your tired feet by giving yourself a foot massage: squeeze your foot all over, knead your sole with your thumbs, and gently pull on your toes. You can even give them a soak in the tub! Treat yourself to some nice foot cream to exfoliate and moisturize.
Always remember to take off your makeup. Your skin needs to be fresh and clean to renew itself as you sleep. Once or twice a week, treat your face to a sheet mask. There are many options, so you can choose one that’s best for your skin’s needs. If you’ve been working long hours, invest in eye patches as well to help heal those puffy, dark circles. After your mask, keep your face extra-moisturized with a night cream.
When you need a truly “me” night, fill up the bath and toss in a bath bomb, then submerge in your favorite scent. Bring a glass of wine, a good book, or some of your favorite music into the bathroom with you, and let yourself have a moment.
There’s nothing wrong with retail therapy! Get yourself more excited for work by shopping for a new outfit. Shop for a new bra and panty set or a leotard that you can’t wait to show off during your next shift.
Of course, you can’t forget the shoes. Check out the newest Pleaser styles or browse popular picks for inspiration. Try something totally new, like the Sky-308 with a bright, metallic platform, or the light-up Discolite-708STAR. Or finally pull the trigger on that one pair you’ve been eyeing for weeks. Once you do have a new pair, remember to take care of it!
Pleaser Shoes are already made to be comfortable for dancing, but you can make them even more so by adding gel insoles in small/medium or medium/large.
Whether you’ve been working for years or you just started dancing, there’s always something new to learn. Scroll through #poledancing on your favorite app to see dancers showing off their tricks, and find one you want to do. Then, get to practicing!
If you’re looking for more formal training, seek out pole dancing classes near you or online. You can find classes for beginners, intermediate, and advanced dancers. Some websites even have walkthrough videos for specific tricks, if you want help with a certain move.
Or you can leave work at work if you want to! Find an online course for something totally different. Do a virtual wine tasting or cooking class. Take a course about a subject you always wanted to study but never had the time. Order materials and do your own paint and sip in the comfort of your house. There’s information out there for all of the hobbies you can think of, so start searching and see what clicks.
We know a night on the pole is its own workout, but you can supplement it with at-home weight training or cardio. Core and upper body exercises are key for pole dancing, so spend time doing planks and crunches. Both yoga and Pilates are great ways to build core strength, so look for online classes that you can stream or find a studio near you.
Build your endurance by taking up running or cycling. You can invest in a stationary bike and join spin classes virtually, or you can buy a bicycle and ride around your neighborhood. Running is a great cardio exercise that you can do anywhere you have a road or a trail. When you’re working out, be sure to drink plenty of water and include a healthy snack.
