I will say that these shoes are better for no socks or very thin socks. But the open toes would be more comfy on the toes but you also just need to break them in. I was dancing on spin in my pole class and they were comfy after a bit. The ankle support is really good and the grip you get on the pole is great. The laces may get in the way but quick fix is just to adjust your foot a little bit and your boot is holding you on that pole. Omg and the protection of the skin from pole is great.
